BEIJING, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) According to Yonhap News Agency, on the 19th local time, former South Korean President Moon Jae in visited Li Zaiming, the leader of the largest opposition party, the Common Democratic Party, and persuaded him to stop the hunger strike.
It is reported that Moon Jae in mentioned his experience of hunger strike in 2014 when visiting the sick, and suggested that Li Zaiming stop the hunger strike. He said that Li Zaiming has fully demonstrated its sincerity and determination to hunger strike, and stressed that the situation has changed, and now it is time to cheer up as soon as possible and prepare for a long-term struggle.
According to the report, Li Zaiming answered "yes" to this question, but did not indicate the intention of stopping the hunger strike.
On the 18th, Li Zaiming was sent to the nearby Notre Dame Hospital in Ruyi Island on the 19th day of hunger strike because of his health deterioration, and then transferred to the Green Hospital in Zhonglang District.
The report also said that Moon Jae in attended the "5th Anniversary Commemoration of September 19th Pyongyang Joint Declaration" held in Seoul after visiting the sick. This is his first official event in Seoul since he left office in May 2022.
According to previous reports, on the 19th, South Korean President Yin Xiyue approved the court’s request for permission to detain Li Zaiming, the leader of the largest opposition party, the Common Democratic Party. On the same day, the Korean Ministry of Justice submitted a request for permission to detain Li Zaiming to the National Assembly. According to relevant Korean laws, Congress may vote on the case on the 21st.
