A rare penny in Britain sold for 680,000 yuan.

People’s Daily Online, London, May 13 A rare 1933 penny was auctioned in London a few days ago. As there are only four coins of the same type, the auction price reached a world record of 72,000 pounds (about 680,000 yuan).

This coin is used as a template for reference when casting, but this type of coin has never been put into formal production. This is also the first time that a template coin has been auctioned. The buyer of this coin is a private collector, and it is not known whether it is from Britain or abroad.

For this record price, the spokesman of the auction company said that he had never seen other copper coins close to this price. The previous highest auction price of a copper coin was only 15,000 pounds. The reason why pennies were so rare in 1933 was that the Royal Mint minted too many pennies in 1932, so they were not reproduced in 1933.
